LIMINAL delivers maximum impact with minimal ingredients.

LIMINAL is more than a product however.  LIMINAL is also an economic engine; a for-profit business that donates all of its profits to Fair Shake, a non-profit organization that exists to give Americans tools and information to disable the revolving door of injustice created by our justice system.

As you may already know, very few prisons adequately prepare our incarcerated neighbors to successfully rejoin our communities after serving time in a highly-controlled institutional setting. The shocking 82% recidivism rate – when people return to prison after serving a sentence – is all the evidence we need to see that their claims of ‘what works’ have failed us for more than 30 years.

We can no longer wait for the prisons to do a better job.  They serve bureaucratic administrations; they do not serve us.

As capable citizens in a dynamic democracy, it’s now up to us to do the job we entrusted to the elected public servants. With gratitude to everyone who has supported me for the last 15 years, my contribution to improving reentry success is Fair Shake – our nation’s largest, most diverse, most responsive and most comprehensive multi-stakeholder reentry resource center.  A place where we can post resources, share ideas and offer free access – online and offline – to a growing clearinghouse of information.

To ensure that every person can participate fully and equally in this important public project, Fair Shake is 100% free for all users. Website visitors do not need a password, a membership, or a referral to access the Resource Directory, to use the Computer Basics Tutorial or to read or print the Ownership Manual.  And not only is everything free to use, peruse and share widely; Fair Shake is also free from tracking, nudging, monitoring, advertisements and programming.  You will never be asked to share personal information to use the website in whatever way you please.*

I’m Sue Kastensen and I believe that we all deserve a fair shake.

Americans are paying an enormous price – in money and in lost opportunity – for an ineffective system that is increasing risk in our daily lives. How can our democracy reflect the will of the people while we have the World’s Highest Incarceration Rate? We can and must do better – for ourselves and for our children.  If we want to turn the recidivism rate around – from 82% failure to 82% success (and beyond!) – our public servants need our input.

Each one of us has the right to determine our destiny and share our unique gifts.  We all deserve access to the information we need to learn, to become our full and authentic selves, to connect with others, and to build a future that works for everyone.

Civilization is a group effort.  It’s not easy, and it’s always shifting.  Let’s figure out how to foster a safer, stronger nation, less dependent on incarceration and more interdependent on intention and innovation.
